After her husband is killed before leaving American shores, she grieves his death but is asked to rescue the town’s main business, the sawmill.
When her first love, Thomas Carson, returns to Pineville after a five-year absence, Sarah must put aside the past and ask Thomas to do the same. They can only save their town by working together.
While Sarah grieves, cares for her children, and runs the sawmill, she discovers she has feelings for Thomas. But she worries he hides a dark secret.

My degree is in history, with some special attention to the Spindletop oil boom and the areas and industries surrounding it. This story felt very authentic to the setting.
This book had so much packed into it I was amazed by it all. There was mystery, history, humor, life lessons, and of course love.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Marilyn Peveto's debut novel, When Your Heart Comes Home. Her description of the sights and sounds of East Texas's Piney Woods really helped me visualize the setting and her research was spot on. Her dialog fit the time period and the locale perfectly. The author did a great job portraying life in a small town where everyone knows everyone else's business! I encourage anyone wanting to experience life in the Piney Woods to read this book.
This series set in rural East Texas is so sweet and heartwarming! Perfect for anyone who enjoys authentic historical fiction that is both transporting and uplifting. I can’t wait to read the next one!
