Sarah Andersson is a widowed mother of two small children and owner of the sawmill in tiny Pineville, Texas. She thinks her life is headed in the direction she has prayed for–ample time with her precious children and the promise of a life with Thomas Carson, longtime friend and foreman at the mill. But their peace is shattered when the sheriff warns Thomas that a recently released convict from the state penitentiary is coming to find him to settle a transgression from the past.

To protect Sarah and the children, Thomas decides to leave town, knowing it is just a matter of time before the ex-convict tracks him down. Sarah is convinced she and the children are safe in Pineville among friends and relatives. Then a stranger tied to her early life shows up in town and turns her world upside down.
