Lucy Bailey has a dream. Her desire is to be the best teacher the school in tiny Pineville, Texas has ever seen. But Lucy falls victim to a tornado that demolishes the school one evening when she stays behind to grade her students’ compositions. After the wind whirls her through the air, then slams her to the ground, she watches sections of the schoolhouse sailing over the pine trees, carrying her dreams along with it.

Solomon Brown, a backwoodsman living in the Big Thicket of East Texas, comes to Pineville to help rebuild the school at the request of his long-time friend, Thomas Carson. He soon finds that the school is not the only thing that needs rebuilding. Can he help Lucy move past the trauma that cripples her after the incident?
