Meet Marilyn
Marilyn Peveto lives and writes from the Pineywoods region of East Texas where her family has resided for generations. She enjoys life with her husband and her faithful writing partner, a little white dog aptly named Snow White.
Mother of two and grandmother of three, she finds much joy with her family. When she’s not writing, Marilyn takes pleasure in reading, browsing in antique stores for her next treasure, and cooking her family’s favorite southern foods.
Marilyn’s writing journey began many years ago when her mother took the time to read to her. The small town where she lived then, and still lives today, did not have a public library but her mother made sure she always had books available to read. This began an interest in and a love for reading and then a love for writing.
Always enjoying writing in some way, in elementary school Marilyn wrote little stories about the events of the day. Later she tried her hand at poetry and personal essays. But the desire of her heart was to write a novel. When her children graduated from high school and left for college, she worked to learn more about the craft of writing. Finally, in November 2017, Marilyn published her first book.
Inspiration for the Pine Curtain Chronicles Series
Texas’s first industrial revolution began in the virgin pine forests of East Texas around 1880. From that time until the beginning of World War II, timber companies drew thousands of families into the sawmill towns and lumber camps.
Marilyn’s grandparents and great-aunts and uncles were children residing in East Texas sawmill towns at the turn of the twentieth century. They loved to share their experiences of growing up in the communities that were built around a particular sawmill location in the pine forests. Their lives were simple, but the townspeople appeared to have a special bond, looking out for each other, and enjoying their common interests. Perhaps the reason for the cohesiveness of the small towns was the fact they were often miles away from larger cities.
Even though Marilyn heard the stories many years ago, they made an impact, and the stories stayed with her through the years. When it came time to write her first novel, she knew exactly which location and time period she would choose. The first book in the series, When Your Heart Comes Home, was set in the fictional town of Pineville, Texas, in 1906. Each book in the series is set in Pineville with characters that are endearing and not soon forgotten.
"A book is like a garden, carried in the pocket."
